Developing Good Character

Titus 2:11-13 the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Character - the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing. A persons moral or ethical quality. - Dictionary.com

¥ A person’s character is the sum of his or her disposition, thoughts, intentions, desires, and actions.

¥ Good Character is Godly Character

I. A person’s character is based on their overall actions and qualities and should not be based on one or two isolated instances.

A. Examples,

1. King David was a man of good character (1 Samuel 13:14) but he was not without sin (2 Samuel 11).

2. King Ahab may have done one or two things right (1 Kings 22:35), but overall… he was still a man who had bad character (1 Kings 16:33).

 

B. Biblical Examples of People with Good Character:

1. Ruth (Ruth 3:11),

2. Hanani (Nehemiah 7:2),

3. David (Psalm 78:72), and

4. Job (Job 2:3).

¥ None of these folks were perfect but when you look at their overall all life they passed the “good character test.”

II. Character is the Outward Expression of our Choices.

A. Daniel “resolved not to defile himself” in Babylon (Daniel 1:8). - An indication of “Great Choices Produce Good Character."

1. It’s common for people with poor character to blame all of their problems on other people.

B. Character influences the decisions we make. Therefore, character is key in the molding of our lives.

1. “The integrity of the upright guides them” (Proverbs 11:3a).

C. Good Character will help us make good choices in bad times and keep us from sin (Proverbs 10:9a).

III. Developing Good Character?

A. We develop character by:

1. Controlling our thoughts (Philippians 4:8-9),

2. Practicing Christian conduct (2 Peter 1:5-8),

3. Guarding our hearts (Proverbs 4:23; Matthew 15:18-20), and

4. Keeping good company (1 Corinthians 15:33).

Emirates Airlines Returns To Nigeria February 28

 

Emirates Airlines, which suspended flights to Nigeria over a spat between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) occasioned by controversy over Rapid Antigen Testing (RDT) prior to departure of Emirates flights from Nigeria, has announced that it would return to the lucrative Dubai-Nigerian routes come February 28, 2021.

The airline in a statement declared: “In line with government’s directives, passenger services from Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) to Dubai are temporarily suspended until 28 February 2021. Customers from both Abuja and Lagos will not be accepted for travel prior to or including this date.”

The UAE airline, however, regretted the inconvenience caused, even as it asked affected passengers to contact their booking agent or Emirates call centre for rebooking.

“Emirates remains committed to Nigeria, and we look forward to resuming passenger services to Dubai for our customers when conditions allow.”

The UAE and Nigeria were disagreed over the introduction of Rapid Antigen Testing (RDT) on passengers from Nigeria four hours prior to departure.

Aggrieved by the action of the airline, the Nigerian government through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) slammed the carrier with a ban.

Less than five hours after the action, the NCAA lifted the ban after extracting commitment and agreement to suspend the action from the carrier.

The NCAA said the carrier’s suspension of Rapid Antigen Testing (RDT) prior to departure of Emirates flights from Nigeria with immediate effect until such a time that the required infrastructure is made available by the Nigerian government.

That may not have gone down well with the Arab carrier as it tried to force the hands of the Nigerian government to accept its rapid test policy. 

The Nigerian authorities are going by the agreement extracted from them to suspend the exercise such a time that the required infrastructure is made available by the Nigerian government.

Court Orders CBN To Unfreeze Accounts Of 20 #EndSARS Campaigners

 

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, set aside its order freezing the accounts of the 20 #EndSARS campaigners which was frozen on November 4, 2020, at the instance of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The EndSARS campaigners who were defendants in the suit filed by the CBN had, in an application, prayed the court for the reversal of the freezing order.

When the matter came up on Wednesday, counsel to the CBN, Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), informed the court that he had discussed with the counsel to the defendants to discard all the processes filed in the matter since the freezing order had expired on February 4, 2021.

According to him, the Federal Government has set up Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate police brutality, which caused the EndSARS protest last year, adding that “this matter involves young people and we do not want to prolong it. I have discussed with my colleagues to discard all the processes filed and if that is done, I will withdraw my motion seeking an extension to allow the matter to rest.”

Counsel to the defendants (#EndSARS campaigners), Femi Falana (SAN), corroborated the submissions of the counsel to the CBN and added that since the exparte order of the court has expired, the motion to have the order quashed had been overtaken by events.

“We, therefore, prayed the court to allow us to withdraw the same motion and that will also affect all the motions filed in this matter,” Falana told the court.

Aondoakaa, on his part, said he had the instruction from his client, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, not to ask for an extension of the order in the spirit of reconciliation and added that ” we are not asking for an extension of the order to allow everybody to go home peacefully.”

Justice Mohammed, in his ruling, commended the two senior lawyers for their commitment to ensuring that justice was done in the matter.

“All processes filed in this matter are hereby deemed to have been withdrawn. The order of the court made on 4th November 2020, freezing the accounts of the defendants is hereby set aside.

“It is hereby ordered that all the accounts of the defendants should be unfrozen and this suit is hereby struck out,” Justice Mohammed held.
