#ENDSARS: Again, Lai Mohammed questions CNN integrity, demands evidence of story Read more...

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Wednesday asked the Cable News Network, CNN, an international cable television channel, to present the evident of its story, alleging that soldiers massacred #ENDSARS protesters at Lekki Toll gate, on 20th October 2020.

Mohammed equally noted that CNN violated the basic principles of journalism – fairness, and balance, noting that the reputable organization was caught spreading fake news without proper investigation

Disclosing this on NTA, (Nigerian Television Authority) Mohammed asked CNN to provide the evident of dead bodies allegedly killed by soldiers.

“What we are asking CNN is that where is your evidence? Where are the bodies?”.

His words: “It shows that they (CNN) are desperate. The so-called recent development has been seen before. There is nothing new. If there is anything new, it is a contradiction of CNN’s position. “What we are asking CNN is that where is your evidence? Where are the bodies?

The military has been consistent. CNN contravenes the basic principles of journalism – fairness, and balance. ‘They did the story without contacting the Federal Government for its own side. They relied on second and third parties narratives.

“They (CNN) were caught spreading fake news and they are trying to escape. “We are accusing them (CNN) of basing their stories on videos sourced on social media. CNN has been inconsistent.

It also doctored the video it got. “We are confident in our position.”

Rumoured male genital diasppearance, a ploy to hate, stagnate development — Ortom

Amid rumours of the alleged disappearance of male genitals through mystical powers, Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue, on Wednesday, dismissed such rumours as “baseless and the handiwork of mischief makers“.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged claims had led to acts of arson in Daudu in the Guma Local Government Area of the state. Ortom, who refuted the claims when he visited Daudu in Guma Local Government Area, where the alleged genital disappearance occurred, explained that ” there was no single confirmed case of the incident”.

The governor said the concocted tales of male genital disappearance was not true but only meant to encourage hatred and underdevelopment of the area. He expressed regrets that while the people had yet to recover from the effects of herders` attacks,

“it was unthinkable for the youth in the area to embark on destruction of property for a nonexistent disappearance of genital organs”.

Ortom noted that such allegations could scare people who go to Daudu for investment purposes, adding that “law and order must be maintained at all times”.

The governor, who requested those with complaints of missing genital organs to present themselves for physical examination, only one person turned out but could not prove his claim of genital disappearance hence his male organ was still intact. Ortom warned the people against any breakdown of law and order and said such acts would be tackled by the security agents.

He appealed to the people to refrain from resorting to jungle justice and to report all criminal activities to the security agencies. Also speaking, the Chief of Guma, Dennis Shemberga, commended elders and other stakeholders, especially security agents, for the critical roles they played in ensuring that peace returned to Daudu.

He said the governor’s visit was timely and would help to douse tension in the area. NAN reports that the governor was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mukadas Garba, and members of the State Executive Council.

It would be recalled that the Police Command in Benue had also dismissed the claims but admitted that it had arrested eight people in connection with the destruction of property in the area.

Biden launches transition website

Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. President, has launched an official transition website, www.buildbackbetter.com.

The move comes as votes are still being counted in many states and the presidential race still undecided.

On the www.buildbackbetter.com website is a short statement that reiterates Biden’s earlier assertion that it is the American people that will decide who becomes the next U.S. president

“Votes are still being counted in several states around the country.

“The crises facing the country are severe — from a pandemic to an economic recession, climate change to racial injustice.

“The transition team will continue preparing at full speed so that the Biden‑Harris Administration can hit the ground running on Day One,” the statement says. Earlier in a speech, Biden, who is also a former U.S. Vice President, said it was clear that he had won “enough states to reach 270 electoral votes to win the presidency”.

“I’m not here to declare that we’ve won, but I am here to report when the count is finished, we believe we will be the winners,” he said.
