Kogi poly student kidnapped, abductors demand N10m

A student of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Miss Adebanjo Adetutu, has been kidnapped.

Adedutu, who is a final-year Higher National Diploma student of the Department of Office Technology Management, was abducted by unknown men along the Itakpe-Lokoja-Okene Road. She was said to be travelling to her home town in Ogun State when the kidnappers struck.

The incident occurred almost at the same time that three stalwarts of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance, Kogi State chapter, were kidnapped in the state.

The Director of Students’ Affairs, National Association of Kogi State Students, Mr. Salihu Lukman, in a statement made available to our correspondent, said the kidnappers had earlier demanded the sum of N10m as ransom and later reduced it to N500,000.

“As I speak to you, negotiation is still ongoing. Today makes it the fourth day since Adetutu was kidnapped and her poor mother, who happens to be a widow, cannot afford the ransom. We are pleading with the government and the general public to come to the aid of this poor child so that we can secure her release,” he said.

Lukman also said the Kogi State Police Command had been informed about the incident and the Commissioner of Police, Ali Janga, promised to secure Adetutu’s release within the shortest possible time.

Kogi to implement no-work no-pay policy Read more...

ABUJA—GOVERNOR Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, yesterday, said he will implement the Federal Government’s no-work no-pay policy, stating that only “political civil servants” were on strike, as “real civil servants” in the state were on their duty posts every day. Governor Bello, who stated this after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed-door at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, also said the state security apparatus had adopted new style to deal with criminal elements.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State

He added that the state was secured and hosting expatriates that had cashed in on its friendly atmosphere to invest, noting that his government owed workers two months salaries. Bello said: “I came to brief Mr. President of developments in Kogi State. I need to give him updates on happenings in the state and he is pleased with the briefing that I gave to him. And he encouraged me to keep up the good job that I am doing.”

On the security situation in the state, he said: “On the scale of one to 10, we are 70 percent; we are doing very well even though the challenges are still there. “Security is not what you tackle once and for all, you have to continue to do your best. The criminals, kidnappers, robbers, hoodlums will always device various tactics. They may change styles we have to change along with them and be ahead of them at any point in time in order to keep Kogi State secure and Kogi is currently secure.

“Politically, Kogi State is really very stable. It is just a few Diaspora politicians that are making noise in the media and I think you cannot stop them from making noise. We always allow them to make noise when they want to, but the reality on ground is that Kogi State is very stable politically.”

Court summons Senator Abaribe over Nnamdi Kanu’s disappearance.....

- A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja orders Senator Abaribe to give reasons why Nnamdi Kanu failed to appear in court

- Justice Binta Nyako gives Abaribe and two others options of producing Kanu or forfeiting their bail bonds of N100 million each

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, to produce Nnamdi Kanu or forfeit his bail bond of N100 million which he paid to the court in respect of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The court gave the ruling on Tuesday, October 17, after Senator Abaribe applied to the court to discharge him from the suretyship, bond and recognizance of the bail of Kanu. Justice Binta Nyako ordered the senator to appear before the court to give reasons why the IPOB leader failed to appear for his trial. Nyako also gave Abaribe and the two others three options of producing Kanu, forfeiting their bail bonds of N100 million each or asking for more time to produce the first defendant.

She said Abaribe can only be discharged from his suretyship only and when the first defendant - Kanu - is made available for his trial or forfeit his N100 million bail bond. NAIJ.com had earlier reports that Nnamdi Kanu was absent in court as hearings on his trial commenced. Kanu who was expected to appear before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court is no where in sight. Raising the issue, the director of public prosecution, S. M Labaran said the state fears that the trial might not go on as planned. Labaran said the first defendant who was granted bail on August 25, on the grounds of medical challenge was not present in court. Below are some photos taken by NAIJ.com photo journalist, Sodiq Adelakun, at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, October 17.
