FG To Train 500,000 Youths On Skill Acquisition, Agriculture

In a bid to provide food security, the Federal Government announced on Sunday that it is planning to train 500,000 youths on agriculture and skill acquisition.

Disclosing this at the Federal Capital Territory, the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige, said this is coming as the calls for diversification of the Nigerian economy is getting stronger and as many believe that the nation is presently in a state of economic recession owing to a decline in crude oil exports.

In a related development, the President, Fisheries Society of Nigeria, Dr Olajide Ayinla, also announced that the society is partnering with the government to improve the sector by inserting fishery into curriculum of schools to enhance the knowledge among young people and create jobs.

Kogi Prison Break: Governor Wants FG To Step In, Investigate

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has asked the Federal Government to set up a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the jailbreak incident at Koton Karfe Prison Yard in the state.

The Governor, who expressed shock over the incessant incident at the prison yard, said this particular attack in early hours of Saturday, July 30th 2016, seems to be a conspiracy between insiders and criminals who came to free the inmates.

No fewer than 13 inmates were said to have escaped from the federal prison, even as prison officials disappeared when the governor visited the scene. This brings to three times the Koton Karfe Federal Prisons has witnessed jailbreaks in recent history. The first was 2013, the second one was 2014 and this one.

According to information offered by some junior officers, who begged not to be mentioned on the record, the inmates made some remarkable marks on the inside walls, which they scaled to freedom with the help of blankets.

An officer of the prison, simply called ACP Koso, refused to volunteer any information about what happened.

The visibly angry Governor Bello, who visited the prison with the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Director of State Secret Service and top security officials of the state, was not allowed into the prison yard.

The Governor, who has spent substantial resources on security in the state, vowed to use all means available at his disposal to unearth the mystery behind the jailbreak, more so that the incident happened at 3 am while security was only beefed up around the prison at 5.30 am.

It would be recalled that some suspected kidnappers in army uniform were sent to Koton Karfe Federal Prison on Friday to be brought to court by September 1, 2016. It is still unclear if the escapees include this particular set of suspects.

The Governor strongly called on the Federal Government to investigate the matter and punish those officials suspected to be aiding criminals to escape from the prisons.

Canadian singer Justin Bieber was offered $5 million to perform during the Republican National Convention, according to TMZ, but only passed after his manager threatened to quit.

Bieber wouldn’t have been permitted to say anything negative about the GOP or Trump.

The multimillion dollar offer would have been the largest the singer had ever received, and it appears to have come with some strings attached: he would have been forbidden to hang banners reading Black Lives Matter (All Lives Matter were acceptable), and wouldn’t be permitted to say anything negative about the GOP or of its presidential nominee, Donald Trump. The money would have been paid to the singer up front.

Sources “connected with [Creative Artists Agency]” told TMZ that the singer seriously considered the offer before turning it down at the request of his manager, Scooter Braun, and after he was encouraged to do so by LeBron James, whom the GOP group claimed would also be in the area. Braun has hosted fundraisers for the Democratic party in the past.

It’s worth imagining what the word would have been like had Bieber performed for the group, especially after Third Eye Blind trolled Republican concert-goers during a concert in Cleveland during the convention.

Bieber has certainly attracted his share of attention over the course of his career, and no matter how it would have happened, it would have made quite a splash.

Commanding Officer, 17 Others Missing As Boko Haram Ambush Nigerian Troops Unawares

The Nigerian Army says three officers and 15 soldiers are missing in action following the showdown with Boko Haram insurgents in northern Borno State. Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Lucky Irabor, disclosed this on Friday to journalists in Maiduguri, the state capital. He said that a search party deployed to the area has already established contact with six soldiers and four members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF). Commanding Officer of the Operation is among those still missing in action, as well as unspecified number of members of the civilian JTF. According to the Commander, the soldiers disappeared after engaging the bandits in what appears to be a reinforcement mission for their dislodged collaborators in a town called “Gongon”.

Boko Haram Ambush

The Army had earlier said that a number of its troops were missing after they ran into an ambush by the dreaded terrorists. The Army explained that the attack occurred while the troops were returning to their defensive locations after operations to clear remnants of the insurgents at Gongon and environs. The operation led to destruction of the terrorists’ makeshift camps and recovery of various weapons including an anti-aircraft gun, an armored personnel carrier, and motorcycles used by the terrorists.

Enebeli revealed in an interview with Daily Trust, that he plans to take things up a notch by going into active advocacy.

He believes God has a purpose for him having lived long enough to finish his law degree and complete the compulsory one year study at the law school.

“I will go into active advocacy. In fact, when I started this thing, I wasn’t sure I would live to enjoy what I’m enjoying today.”

“So, I said even if I die reading Law, the day I would be buried, they will mention it, that ‘this man died studying Law’. But now that I’m hale and hearty, I’m going into advocacy.”

“After all, the day we were being called to bar, most young people couldn’t stand up. They were sitting for that period, but I was standing.”

“In fact, it was my wife and son who both insisted I sit down. But I insisted on standing because I wanted to show them that I can do advocacy, as God has given me fitness.”

Embattled ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo, has written to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying his government need him to drive its change agenda in the Niger Delta. In a letter to Mr President on Friday, Tompolo said he’s being harassed for his patriotism to Nigeria. The baby was thrown away from the vehicle as the driver was beaten to pulp by your men. “That was not all; the military men stormed the house of one of my younger brothers and harassed his pregnant wife with guns. This has led to complications as a result of her current state. The two of them were arrested and are presently in the custody of the Nigerian Army, Effurun.” On the issue surrounding the controversial Maritime University, Tompolo explained: “Your Excellency sir, I only contributed to the development of the Nigerian Maritime University. I only agreed to sell my property; Mieka International Diving School structures (19 gigantic buildings of various sizes on 12 hectares of reclaimed land) for the quick and flawless take off of the university. “And it all went through due process. I never knew my goodwill and patriotism will lead me to where I am now. I have this burning desire to attract developmental strides to this difficult terrain, as it is the only thing for the people of the Niger Delta, particularly the coastal areas, to continue to have faith in Nigeria as the area has been neglected for so long. “You are being respected today because of your integrity and sincerity of purpose.
